| Responsible - The Green Initiative Its Not That Difficult......!  It's not that difficult for companies to make a difference and that's why Bates Office does not just take our stewardship of the planet very seriously, but also actively encourages our customers to become more eco-friendly. As such we discuss with every new customer their options on reducing their carbon footprint; purchasing more responsibly and how Bates Office can help them meet any legal requirements regarding waste management. We also publish our own guidelines for customers ‘The Green Initiative’ to help educate them in ways that they can run more environmentally friendly workplaces through the introduction of ‘greener’ systems and procedures. We have a fair trade and sustainability statement from all of our suppliers. We are unique among independent dealers in offering a total recycling, waste and shredding solution, which we believe ensures our customers can meet their own environmental targets and obligations. In 2010 Bates Office recycled 62% of the toner cartridges that were sold, we hope to beat this target in 2011. In addition to toners and cartridges Bates Office provides a simple to use system for recycling batteries and mobile phones. Bates Office offers a closed loop service on paper and cardboard recycling where we collect the waste, when we deliver new supplies. Bates Office also offers a secure shredding service to BS7858 standards, again collected when delivering and again reducing the number of vehicle journeys. Bates Office became one of the first independent dealers to obtain ISO14001 and in 2007 we were awarded Carbon Neutral status. We currently offset our carbon footprint through two initiatives, one in Europe and one in India. The second project also provides much needed employment and education to a nation still steeped in poverty.
